Sony has acquired Repeat.gg

It wasn't too long ago that Sony acquired the fighting game tournament organiser Evo, a move that showed that the technology company and its PlayStation division were committed to the future of esports. Now we can add that a second company has been acquired by Sony, with that company being the esports technology platform Repeat.gg.

As reported on by Gamesindustry.biz, Repeat.gg is a platform that hosts leaderboards and tournaments all designed to make esports more accessible. The company has already hosted over 100,000 tournaments and reached over 2 million players.

As for what Sony and PlayStation aims to do with the company as part of this acquisition, Sony Interactive Entertainment's vice president Steven Roberts has said, "our vision for esports has always been about breaking down barriers for gamers to compete at all levels."

Roberts continued, "Together with the talented Repeat.gg team, we're excited to explore more ways for players to engage in competitive gaming and expand the breadth of our esports offerings. This is just the start of our journey and we look forward to sharing more updates with our community in the future."

It is also said that while Sony now owns Repeat.gg, the platform will continue to be accessible to fans outside of the PlayStation family of platforms.
